KERN COUNTY WATER AGENCY:
NEA Analyzes Economic Impacts and Related Issues for the California State
Water Project (SWP) in Kern County
"NEAs economic analyses are easy to understand, not a black box approach, and have withstood the test of time and peer review."
Lloyd Fryer, Policy and Administration Manager
Kern County Water Agency
Project Highlights
Since 1983, NEA has provided annual analysis of the economic
benefits of the California State Water Project (SWP) derived by Kern County
agriculture and the regional economy. Using simulation and input-output modeling
techniques, NEA developed a clear and concise method to develop and present
economic information for the annual zone of benefit report and hearing. The
economic model and information has survived the test of time and cross-examination
for over 18 years. Since 1987, NEA has also participated in the California
Bay-Delta Hearings on behalf of the Kern County Water Agency and other agricultural
water contractors, evaluating the trade offs and impacts of water allocations
from the Bay-Delta.
